Belle Isle

The James River runs along the city of Richmond, which makes this beautiful hiking/biking spot only minutes away from the campuses of VCU and U of R. In warm weather, sunbathing out by the water is also very popular. Walking along Belle Isle lets you breathe some fresh air and gives you a breathtaking view of the city and James River.

Right next to the VCU campus, Carytown is the number one spot to go for students and families on a casual outing. Filled with unique restaurants, boutique shops, music, and vendors, this part of town is an absolute must-see when visiting the city, and it truly showcases the city of Richmond. Make sure to pop into the historic Byrd Theater to see a movie during your visit.

Just finished in late 2019, this multi-level driving range is one of a kind and fun for all ages. Monroe Park

Right in the center of the VCU campus, Monroe Park is the perfect place to walk through on a nice day. Next to the Altria Theater and many restaurants, this is where many people to go to lounge out and enjoy the sunshine. It was recently renovated with outdoor seating, a space for dogs, and a coffeeshop in the center. Students frequently cross through here on their way to class. Parking to get to Monroe Park is easy, there are multiple parking garages and street parking spots surrounding the park.

Altria Theater

On the VCU campus, the Altria Theater draws hundreds to its shows. It puts on a variety of acts, from musicals to stand-up comedy. It is very easy to park and walk to the theater, as there are multiple parking garages and street parking spots available right next to the building. Family friendly and fun, going to the Altria is a great way to spend the evening.
